NECESSARY or Necessary?

It seems that soon New York streets will be feeling a little more understated. Literally.

The federal government will be installing new street signs that are mixed case rather than all uppercase as most of them are now. This project is said to cost taxpayers a cool $27 million dollars with over 250,000 sign being changed at a cost of $110 per sign.

The reason for this costly makeover? "Studies have shown that it is harder to read all-caps signs, and those extra milliseconds spent staring away from the road have been shown to increase the likelihood of accidents, particularly among older drivers, federal documents say."

The new font, called Clearview, was developed specifically for this purpose. Ok, so it's not Helvetica, but I'll accept it. The new signs will be phased in over a period of 15 years. So WELCOME TO NEW YORK! Sorry, er, welcome to new york.

Tweeting Bar

I am truly amazed at the new technology that's out there now. Currently I am freelancing at a company called 360i and they have actually created a bar that tweets. You heard me folks. I point you to exhibit A below.

The brainpower here is astounding and the developers came together to create a way for a bar tap to send out a Tweet every time someone pours themselves a stiff one.

One little thing I forgot to mention. The bar is located inside the office and they have Yuengling and Hefeweizen on tap. And these people need it. They work so hard and are often here on weekends. I am very impressed.

Welcome!

My first official blog post! How very exciting.

By day, I am an Art Director and Designer based in New York City. In my free time I am a runner, a girlfriend, a runner, a design theorist, a runner, an artist and well, you get the point.

My most recent accomplishment is completing my second marathon in San Diego on June 6, 2010. It was a grueling race in grueling conditions, but I managed to pull it out in 4:29. Despite my injuries, my time was quite an accomplishment! Here are some pictures from the race:

More marathon stuff to come!
